Never received a fake apple but did receive on a weekly basis some "delectable" treat that mom had made (cookies, brownies,etc.) For some strange reason I never ate them at school in front of the kids since one was not enough to share - told them I'd wait until after school. Most of these "treats" came from very poor, dirty kids. Unfortunately, they ended up in the garbage after school hours.
Well, the most expensive gift was a $75.00 gift certificate which, of course, I appreciated very much. But honestly, those that meant the most to me were the junky things they found around the house that came from those who couldn't afford a gift. It really is true that it's the thought that counts.
One of the biggest compliments I have received as a teacher is opening the door and seeing a former student. Sometimes they just want to talk about their experiences in my room, talk about their education and new jobs, show me their precious angels (their kids), etc. Every year I always called my entire class my "precious angels" whether precious or mean as a snake. They loved that and always believed that they were all my precious angels! A whole lot of them were.
