Most gorgeous Goddess of plenty, no, with Sauerbraten it is actually Dumplings. Either Potato or, as we call them, Semmelknoedel, for which you use cut up dried white bread, chopped parsley, bacon, warm milk, eggs, flour, nutmeg, salt and pepper, which you turn into a wonderful slush that you then roll into dumplings in your hands, and poach them in hot water. Once they rise to the surface, they are done. Sort of like Gnocchi.
And yes, Sauerbraten, braised Red Cabbage, and Knoedel (Dumplings), Spaetzle are indeed for Goulash and now I am fucking hungry!
