McCain sure wasn't a saint. I don't think that's a secret to anyone.
The circumstances of his divorce were speculated about and used against him in his presidential bids.
His ex-wife and mother to his three eldest children nonetheless said that he was a great guy, a great friend, and the best man for president. She sounds like a class act.
For me, the fact that McCain served his country diligently before and after being tortured as a Vietnam POW makes him deserving of the highest honors, regardless of the circumstances surrounding his divorce 40 years ago.
