I have a medical condition that prevents me from smelling.  

Wow! Is this a daily problem for you or have you learned to live with it?

I did not need to learn to live with it.  I have never smelled anything besides really strong mint, or ammonia.    We used to have 'scratch and sniff ' stickers,  along with smelly markers when I was in school,.  I remember my classmates going bonkers over the smells, and playing along because I didn't want to be "different ".

What about taste since that usually goes along with the sense of smell?

It does !  I can taste in muted forms.  It's worked well in my life as a bartender
