Thanks, Duch. We divided up my mom’s jewelry Friday morning and it was pleasantly civil. I ended up with a roughly 3 carat diamond ring set in platinum (my dad upgraded my mom’s wedding ring in 2002) which I’ll wear.
I also took her gold charm bracelet (with some reluctance). It has huge sentimental value and if I were willing to sell it based on the gold, it’s probably worth a lot. But I can’t take it apart and do that. It would be…desecration. I tried wearing it yesterday to her service but it was so bulky/heavy I couldn’t even do that. So…I’ll keep it and make my kids deal with it when I die, lol.
I also ended up with my great grandmother’s pearl necklace…the pearls are the color of rotten/yellowed teeth.
I got more stuff that I don’t want to deal with (and more jewelry than I will ever wear). I’m a minimalist these days so I feel like I’m hauling stuff home that will only be less meaningful to my kids. But they’ll have to deal with it. I bowed out of the jewelry distribution after getting more than enough but I still ended up with more than enough.
