Thank you! That's exactly what I was trying to express. I agree that people should be thanked, I'm not an ingrate, but I think trying to contact the mayor so that the community would recognize what the kids did was a bridge too far for me. Most of us were taught as children to do the right thing without the expectation of being rewarded in some manner. Am I being a hardass here? I don't know!
I don't think your being a hardass. I just think unless your humble like Superman or Jesus, most people want thanks and or recognition for doing a good deed or the right thing. Just don't expect to be treated like a celebrity or receive a lifetime of special treatment. It's fine to be recognized unless your a liar and braggart like Trump.
