I don't want the rats fleeing the sinking ships creeping to my state.

Rats? People looking to work for a better life for themselves and their families are viewed as rats in your state? You live in one of the whitest states in the country. I don't think you're in any danger of being overrun by rats.

Why would liberals want to get away from the "utopias" they helped create?

Taxes.   Massachusetts has a sky high tax rate,   and people move to New Hampshire where the taxes are lower.     Then they demand the same services that they would get if they had stayed in Mass.  Can't do that without raising taxes in New Hampshire,   so now a lot of the towns that border Mass have sky high taxes as well.

It was a rhetorical question.
