Otherwise known as making a deal with the devil...
Our local rec offers 'enrichment ' classes, they basically hobby classes, but without grades. My grandson wanted to take a woodcarving class, which was something like 200 bucks for 8 weeks of classes.
I am known for sewing in my area, so the rec director said if I agreed to teach a basic sewing course, they'd let the grandson take the woodcarving class for free (I'm all for free shit)
Let me tell ya, high school home ec isn't what it used to be, I know that I graduated back in the 80's, but at least they taught us how to sew and cook.
Yesterday, I spent an hour with 6 adults, and I was ready to pull my hair out. I figured they knew how to thread a needle, but I was wrong. I figured that they knew how to sew a button, but I was wrong. Who knew that the class would end with someone taken away by ambulance???? And how do you not realize that you are sewing your shirt and pants together? I felt like I was in an episode of the 3 stooges!
I'm supposed to bring my machines in 2 weeks, and I don't think they are ready to handle scissors yet.
The goal is supposed to be a pin cushion, and a tote bag in 8 weeks. Eep!

Fun fact, I have at least four sewing machines two being walking foot, don't know how to sew.

I would love to know how to sew. I can do the basics, like a button or a tear on a seam, but that's the extent of it. To be able to make some of my own clothes would be a dream.

You would probably be better off teaching kids.

My daughter has a sewing machine and makes stuffed animals, pillows and clothes for the pets. She does pretty good at it, but not 100%. She could take a class.

That is rough! It should be more specific about needing basic skills-or too bad you didn't know they would be sewing thier clothes together! OH MY GOSH!

I have taught kids before, in both cub scouts, and 4H. Let me tell you, 13 cub scouts are a lot easier to deal with, than 6 adults. At least none of the kids jammed a sewing needle in their kneecap.

If she can thread a needle, she knows 100% more than the people yesterday. She could probably get away with watching some YouTube videos on what she wants to learn. If she's making stuffed animals and clothes, she's ahead of the curve. Most classes offered are beginner or basics, and she'd probably be bored to tears.

She made a purple stuffed octopus that you can flip inside out to turn it yellow. It was pretty impressive and I couldn't do something like that. I'm one of those people that were in your class.
