The only extremely religious person I have no problem with is my Gramps. He has been very involved in his church for 70 years and I was actually raised on the church he subscribes to. When I was 15, I had a wake-up call and left the church and never looked back. And even though my Gramps still attends his church, he is a wise man and does not try to push me into coming back. He is happy with his church and happy with me the way I am. My Gramps is the best. 89 years old and still totally independent, drives to Tennessee twice a month to visit his girlfriend, has all his marbles and is smarter than any person I know. Including me. What you wrote is a perfect example of how I feel also. And I think if everyone felt like you or i do, there would be less problems. We don't have to agree, or even believe the same thing, but we are tolerant of others who believe differently, as long as it is not forced upon us.
As far as your Gramps - he is a perfect example of how religion HAS worked for him in his life, his social interaction with others, his daily life, etc. And that is a great thing, because it worked for him and made him happier, which ultimately is all that really matters to each individual.
I have never said that there are not some positive social aspects to a group of people who gather together to share a common interest. It just will be a different setting for me then one where the main "common interest" is a religion.

Or should I pretend to know that there isn't? Some things we don't have the answers for and it's OK to just not know.
