*IN THE LINE OF DUTY* OFFICER DOWN
#41
1/5/11 RAINIER, Ore. – Rainier's chief of police died Wednesday following an exchange of gunfire in Rainier, a small Oregon town along the Columbia River.

A press release from the Columbia County Sheriff's Department confirmed the death of the officer but did not originally identify him. We have now confirmed that the officer who died was Ralph Painter, Rainier's chief of police and a former DARE officer and Rainier Councilman. He graduated from St. Helens High School in1974 and attended Clackamas County Community College.

The shooting suspect, who was wounded and taken a hospital, has been identified as Daniel Armaugh Butts. He was reportedly wearing a non-issued Cowlitz County Fire District No. 5 sweatshirt at the time of the shooting. However, the Cowlitz County Fire District No. 5 in Kalama says Butts "has never been associated with or had dealings with Cowlitz County Fire District No. 5."

The Columbia Country Sheriff, Jeff Dickerson, said in an emotional news conference near the scene of the shooting that the officer's family has been notified and that the officer was married and had children. We now know that he had six adult children, ages 29 to 38, from a previous marriage. A woman who works nearby tells us he also has a 7-year-old son from his current marriage.

shooter is at large.

Patrolman Christopher Matlosz was shot to death Jan. 14, 2011, in Lakewood NJ

CBS
LAKEWOOD, N.J. (CBS 2) – A police officer in New Jersey was gunned down during a routine traffic stop and the suspect was still at large Saturday.

Investigators said 19-year-old Jahnell Crockam was talking to a police officer one minute, and shooting him dead the next.

“To cause the death of an officer, that is the ultimate and we are very saddened by it,” said Pastor Glenn Wilson.

The victim was Lakewood Township Police officer Christopher Matlosz. It happened just after 4 p.m. Friday.

The 27 year-old officer was alone in his patrol car, a routine stop, sitting in his car, talking to a pedestrian, when, police said, that man pulled a gun out of his bagging clothing, and repeatedly fired at the officer.

“Just a question and answer type of thing that the individual stepped back at one point and suddenly pulled out a handgun a weapon and shot the officer three times,” said prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford.

The officer, dying in the driver’s seat, was able to speak to police dispatch. It’s believed the officer was acquainted with shooter, who ran off into nearby woods.

“Officer Matlosz was engaged to be married. The fiancee was at the hospital,” said Ford.

Within hours, individual police officers began circulating on the internet the name and photo of the suspect. Officer Matlosz joined the Lakewood police force in August of 2006 and only a week ago went from working midnight shifts to evening patrols.

“Chris was one of our most popular officers. He was proactive. You might say he was the best of us,” said Robert Lawson, Lakewood Township Police Chief.

manhunt NOW for this thug. not-surprising description:
Crockam was described as black, 5 foot 7 inches tall, about 220 pounds and he was last seen fleeing on foot wearing a black, hooded sweat shirt and dark, sagging jeans with exposed gray boxer shorts.

i hope he resists arrest.

manhunt still under way for the dirtbag.
reward is up to $144,300. someone should throw him to the police for that much.

Charles Cobb of Gulfview Townhouses talks about police searching the apartment for the shooting suspect of Lakewood police officer Chris Matlosz. Cobb said the police entered his apartment, forced his family to the floor while holding M-16 machine guns over their heads. (Noah K. Murray/The Star-Ledger)

TOUGH SHIT!!
AND ANYBODY HIDING HIM NEEDS TO GO DOWN TOO.

Bail will be set at $5,000,000, officials said. A reward leading to an arrest has been increased to $144,300.

Crockam, whose street name is "Sav,'' (savage) is still at large and is armed and dangerous, officials said. he's a gangbanger and all his friends with warrants are being brought in for questioning.

Thanks Duchess...i have been watching for this since the moment i woke up!

New Jersey State Police, with the help of an informant, arrested Jahmell W. Crockam, 19, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A source told News 4 New York that a State Police SWAT team made the arrest in Camden, across the Delaware River from Philadelphia.

State Police call their unit TEAMS, for Tactical Emergency and Mission Specialists. They apparently moved in after Crockam was dropped off at a house in Camden.

News 4 New York has also learned from sources that police now believe that the Bloods gang-- of which the alleged suspect in the murder of a Lakewood cop is believed to have belonged to--has ordered its members to attack law enforcement officers in more assassination attempts.

Two Miami-Dade police officers were shot and killed in a gunfight with suspects as they tried to serve a warrant for a violent fugitive in a Miami home Thursday morning.

One suspect, identified as Johnny Simms, 23, was killed in the gun battle. Another suspect is in custody

The dead officer was identified as Roger Castillo. The name of the dead female officer has not been released. She died during surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

One suspect also was killed in the gun battle. Another suspect is in custody, investigators said.

Investigators say they're not looking for any other suspects.

"We're asking for the community's prayers,'' said Commander Nancy Perez, who broke down when she announced the news shortly before 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Details were sketchy, but a shooting erupted between suspects and police at a home in Northwest Seventh Avenue and 69th Street. The officers were serving a warrant for a homicide suspect. It was the first time in decades that two law enforcement officers have been killed in the line of duty in South Florida.

Castillo, a married father of three whose wife also is an officer, died at the scene. The female officer was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital where she underwent surgery. She died around 1 p.m.

Authorities shut down traffic on Interstate-95, as several other suspects reportedly fled the scene. Aerial helicopter shots showed two bodies covered, one under a blue tarp and another under a yellow tarp. Miami Fire Rescue transported two people about 11:20 a.m.

A multi-agency task force was working in the area serving a warrant for the City of Miami. At a County Commission meeting Thursday, Commission Chair Joe Martinez announced that the county had lost one officer and a second had been airlifted to JMH.

Martinez officers were serving a warrant on "career criminals'' when the shooting occurred.

The male officer who died at the scene was identified as Roger Castillo.

The female officer, who died in surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital, was tentatively identified as Amanda Haworth, the Miami Herald reported.

WTF is wrong with the world today?! Prayers for the child who lost his mom, and hopefully the shooters get what's coming to them without any more innocent lives destroyed

Sometimes I think the world needs a good double flushing to clean out these floaters. :(

i've been watching the entire Miami funeral for the two fallen officers for a few hours now. there are thousands of people attending. my cousin is there, he's been sending me cell phone photos.
Officer Castillo's 3 young sons came to the podium to speak about their Dad. only they started sobbing and couldn't do it.
that's when i lost it. my heart breaks for 4 boys who have lost their parents. their heroes.

The ``last call'' came long after darkness had fallen over a Miami Lakes cemetery on Monday.

A dispatcher announced over the police radio: ``All units stand by for a moment of silence.''

She then called out their names and badge numbers: Amanda Haworth, 2700. Roger Castillo, 1725.

Children and parents, a wife and a partner, siblings, grandparents, friends and fellow cops sobbed, ending the daylong rite of remembrance for the two Miami-Dade detectives who had lost their lives in the line of duty.

Police are targets because they can't instigate the shooting, most of the officers know when they are going after violent offenders, most of them would shoot first if they could.

It's sad that the rules put great people in harms way.

Thanks for the updates on these stories LC.

INDIANAPOLIS -- A 29-year-old Indianapolis police officer shot during a weekend traffic stop has died, city and police officials said Wednesday.

Officer David Moore was taken off life support Wednesday morning and died, Public Safety Chief Frank Straub told WISH-TV. Police Sgt. Paul Thompson confirmed the death.

Moore was shot in the face, chest and leg during a Sunday morning traffic stop. Police have accused a 60-year-old ex-convict of shooting the officer. The suspect is in jail pending charges.

Police Chief Paul Ciesielski said Tuesday night that tests showed Moore was too badly wounded to survive and that Moore's family was talking to doctors about donating his organs.

only 29. Rest in Peace Officer Moore.

60-year-old Thomas Hardy, 11-time convict, parolee, should have been in prison for life!

With all due respect to LEO's everywhere, I would never be able to commit to a relationship with one. I would be out of my mind with fear every time he went to work.

You can see it everyday, an officer shouting for a violent offender to drop his weapon, you and I were both trained to bring these guys to jail, shooting and killing the suspect is always the last resort.
