Linda Nelson Stocks AMERICAN FOLK ART
#1
i admit it. i'm compulsive. i always order my new calendar around this time of year, and have it all filled in with important dates marked before new years. anyway, i posted this for the art...i never heard of this lady before, but i LOVE her work, Linda Nelson Stocks folk art. very homey and sweet and nostalgic. i thought others might like it. (it's at amazon) i'll go find some more of her work to post~~

the artist: Fortunately, I live in the beautiful rolling hills of Connecticut. Because I have always loved New England, I knew I needed to live here. My childhood was spent on a family farm (begun by my great grandfather, a civil war veteran) in Illinois. His daughter, my grandmother, Belle’s reminiscences of those horse and buggy days always fascinated me. My fondest wish was to wear a beautiful long dress and pick roses all day. Then, of course, I’d paint them! I really enjoyed living my childhood on the farm. I had quiet time and the opportunity to explore and enjoy nature and farm animals.

Charming! The water falling over the rocks is damn cool, I'd like to have something like that. Her art reminds me a little of Mary Engelbreit's work. Life looks so simple through this artist's eyes. If only...

she was influenced by the simplicity of Grandma Moses, and you can surely see Currier and Ives too. here are a few of her Christmas cards~~horses/sleighs are some of my favorite subjects. jingle bells!

LC - Here's toasting your love of D'Arte Americana with a PC Sleigh Ride lyric change:

"There’s a happy feeling nothing in the world can buy

When they pass around the coffee and the pumpkin pie

It’ll be like a picture print
(but not those images of Darktown with the exception of the one that LC displays not because it portrays degrading racially stereotypical characteristics of the colored as in NAACP “Colored” but due to the fact a perp is in cuffs) by Currier and Ives . . .

i know it's so incorrect blah blah, but it's so damn collectible too! you cannot have Americana w/o Currier & Ives~~

i had emailed with her a few times, and i had already ordered my 2012 calendars. she had told me to let her know so she could sign them, so i went to her site to email her and saw this:

http://www.lindanelsonstocks.com/

i felt very badly since i did admire her. i wouldn't presume to call her a friend, but thanks. i'll certainly hang on to my calendars.

A friend of my wifes in Conn. paints and some of the shit she has sent could be considered "art" very detailed stuff that the kids just love to abuse. Some stuff like breadbaskets and knife holders are immune to them though.
