will you get a flu shot?
#1
i know a lot of people disagree with getting flu shots. will you be getting one?
i did and i'm achy, not sick, but that body-ache thing. it is an attenuated virus used for the vaccine, so there is always the potential for a mild case of flu resulting from the vaccine.
but i still get one every year, it beats a raging case of full-blown flu. and even so, you never know if they targeted the right strain of flu that will go around. it's like russian roulette.

I've never had one but, I know a few people who do get one faithfully every year. I might consider it if I worked around a large group of people or spent a significant amount of time around children but, neither one of those scenerios apply to me.

Yes, we have been getting the flu shot for the past few years.
Around 4 or 5 years ago, before getting the shot, my wife & I both came down with the worst ever fever, body pains, sneezing, coughing, runs, can't sleep, in our lives. After about 4 days we finally had to go to the docs, to get some heavy duty meds. Anyway, he said "we didn't have the flu"!!! Well, if that wasn't the flu, I sure as hell don't want to find out what the real flu is!!!

is cost the main consideration when deciding whether to get shot?

Cars, the flu can kill people, anyone elderly or with pre-existing conditions (no, you're not elderly you handsome devil! Old99 ) respiratory problems, blah blah.
my son is young and healthy, strong as an ox, but because he had to have his spleen removed when it ruptured in car accident, his immune system is compromised. so i drag him to get it too.

(CNN) -- A ninth baby has died in California from whooping cough, health officials said Thursday.

All nine infants were under three months of age, the state's Department of Public Health said.

As of Tuesday, the state has recorded more illnesses due to whooping cough -- 4,017 -- than in any year since 1955, the department said.

Whooping cough, or pertussis, may look like just like a cold or a persistent cough in adults. But in infants, it can be fatal, doctors say.

Whooping cough was declared an epidemic in California in June. Peaks in cases of the highly contagious disease cycle every two to five years. California saw its last peak in 2005, with 3,182 cases, according to state health officials.

Vaccination role unclear in whooping cough outbreak

Some doctors relate this recent rise in cases to the parents who have shied away from vaccinating children due to fears, albeit unfounded, that there is a connection between vaccines and autism.

Dr. Jennifer Shu, a pediatrician at Children's Medical Group in Atlanta, Georgia, thinks this is a primary factor in the resurgence of whooping cough.

A 2009 study in Pediatrics found that parental refusal of whooping cough vaccination was associated with children's risk of pertussis infection. Previous research had shown a steady increase of parents who refuse immunization in the last decade.

Well, I don't know much, and certainly don't know everything. I know for sure that my 1st daughter stopped talking, and making eye contact within 3 weeks of receiving her DPT vaccination, back in 1993. Maybe it was a coincidence, but I don't believe in coincidences since I was "educated" in America's medical schools. I vehemently disagree with Dr. Shu. The primary factor(s) involved with escalating rates of whooping cough are as follows. America is becoming a 3rd world country. Just for the same reasons our Chinese manufactured steel dental appliances are spontaneously erupting and fracturing in our patient's mouths, is the slime underneath the snail. All physicians are finding ways to lower costs. This equates to strict aseptic techniques being lightened or ignored due to economic considerations. Doctors used to turn Typhoid Marie, from Mexico away with the non-stop coughing in the waiting room. Do you think she's being turned away in this economy? I doubt it. The same lack of true scientific discipline which takes 10 or so drugs off our pharmacopeia every year, due to unbelievable morbidity by under-testing and scrutinizing new meds, is going to intensify.
Then there is the fact that the veracity/effectiveness of immunizations has never been proven, does that matter to you?
So with all that said, I took a flu shot last November, and quickly got a heavy respiratory infection. Must have been innate intelligence, or divine medical intervention, I can't decide.

Because it's a government conspiracy to kill young and old as a means of population control.

Just went to the doctor this week for a routine appointment. Unfortunatly she did not have her supply in yet. Will probably go to the pharmacy to get one.

My kids had the mandatory vaccines, but no flu shot. I had the flu once and it really wasn't bad enough to consider injecting chemicals with unknown long term effects into my body.

I have it every year, after catching flu once whilst in the Army and found collapsed at the side of the road and spending 4 days in hospital, never hopefully again.
