What blame do the parents have? I don't want to go back and dig up all the details but they didn't have exact GPS coordinates on their kid at the time? WTH? My son is 13 and I don't fucking walk him to 7-11. This kid was close to being 18; I don't see the parents as being terribly neglectful because they weren't sitting on his ass. Regardless, I wouldn't say, well, if they'd only known his exact whereabouts, he wouldn't have been shot. That's akin to blaming a woman for getting raped because she had a short skirt on.

I think it's hard not to profile. But reasonable people should know how far to take that profiling. You ought to know that you're making an assumption and factor that in to your decision making process.
