Buffalo News

BUFFALO, N.Y. – A SWAT team and other officers sent a remote-controlled robot this afternoon into the upscale Lake View home of a trauma doctor wanted for questioning about a fatal shooting Wednesday morning at Eerie County Medical Center, police said.

Buffalo police are looking for Timothy Jorden, Jr., a trauma surgeon, who is a "person of interest" in the shooting. Police warn the former Army Special Forces weapons expert may be armed and dangerous.

Police had blocked road access to Jorden's home in an isolated area of private Lake View homes near the Lake Erie shore. As SWAT team members in camouflage arrived in unmarked SUVs, a helicopter flew over the house then left.

The Buffalo News reported that nine hours into a standoff at the house, police did not find the trauma doctor at home. Police say that Jorden is not in the house and remains at large.

Authorities identified the victim as 33-year-old Jacqueline Wisniewski, a receptionist at the hospital and the mother of a young son. Daniel Derenda, Buffalo police commissioner, said she was shot multiple times and believe the shooting was not a random attack.

It is not immediately clear what Jorden's relationship is to Wisniewski, but an anonymous source told ABC News that she is a former lover of his.

Police have described Jorden as a bald, black male, about 6-foot-2 and 250 pounds, who could be "special weapons trained."

Jorden, 49, treats patients at the medical center and area hospitals. He received his license to practice medicine in New York in 2002 and his certification from the American Board of Surgery in 2004. There are no legal actions against his license and he has no criminal background.

After a brief lockdown this morning, most of the hospital has reopened and is back to functioning as normal, police said. Authorities insist that patients and employees at the facility are safe. And as of Wednesday afternoon, police were still collecting evidence at the hospital.

"Things are well under control by Buffalo police" and other law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation, Mayor Byron Brown said. He said state police, Erie County sheriff's deputies and suburban police departments were assisting.

Police were given a photograph of the man and were showing it to people at various checkpoints. Information about four vehicles registered to Jorden was also handed out in attempts to locate him.

"It's a very sad day for ECMC and our community," said Jody Lomeo, the medical center's chief executive officer. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim."

At a news conference this evening, Lomeo said an internal investigation will take place and the hospital's security procedures will be reviewed.

Officials say the shooting occurred around 8:15 a.m. inside a building that houses outpatient services and offices. The building is adjacent to the hospital's main building. Counseling will be offered to employees.

A police helicopter had been circling over the medical center's campus, which includes a 550-bed hospital. Officials said as many as 400 patients and about half of the hospital's 2,000 employees were on the grounds at the time of the shooting.

According to a 1996 profile in The Buffalo News, Jorden is certified in advanced-trauma life support and has received numerous awards recognizing his relationships with patients, his teaching skills and his involvement in the community.

The News reports that he is a Buffalo native who joined the National Guard in high school, went into the Army after graduation and served with the Army's Special Forces, first as a weapons expert, then as a medic. In those roles, he served in the Caribbean, Japan and Korea.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – A trauma surgeon and former military weapons expert continued early Thursday to elude authorities who began searching for him shortly after the fatal shooting of a receptionist at the Buffalo hospital where they worked.

Police warned that Dr. Timothy Jorden may be armed and should be considered dangerous.

Jorden, who has been licensed to practice medicine in New York for a decade, has served as a role model for black youth in Buffalo, people who know him told the Buffalo News.

Betty Jean Grant, chairwoman of the Erie County Legislature, told the newspaper she watched Jorden grow up and never knew him to get into any trouble.

"It's tragic that a doctor who saved countless lives might be accused of taking someone else's life," she said. "It puts a dark cloud over the mission of a hospital that's dedicated to saving lives."

Police say 33-year-old Jacqueline Wisniewski was shot four times while in a stairwell of the Erie County Medical Center early Wednesday. Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda said the shooting wasn't a random act. Media reports say Wisniewski was the ex-girlfriend of Jorden.

After the shooting, police unsuccessfully searched inside for the gunman for more than four hours.

They blocked a road leading to the surgeon's home in an isolated area of private Lake View residences near the Lake Erie shore. SWAT team members in camouflage arrived in unmarked SUVs. A helicopter flew over the house before leaving. Police later said the house was empty.

Heather Shipley, a friend of Wisniewski, told WIVB-TV that Wisniewski feared Jorden. Wisniewski used to live with Jorden but left him because she believed he was having affairs with other women, Shipley said. When they broke up, he wouldn't let go, Shipley said.

She said Wisniewski told her the doctor had put a GPS tracking device in her car and once held her captive in her home for a day and a half, wielding a knife.

"She told me if anything happened to her, that it was him," Shipley told the station.

Calls to several family members of Wisniewski were either to outdated phone numbers or were not immediately returned.

Jorden's colleagues told the Buffalo News that he had been acting strangely in recent months, avoiding eye contact and basic communication. They also say he had lost a lot of weight -- as much as 75 pounds, estimated Michael Carr, who works in the surgical recovery room.

News 4 confirmed Wednesday night that a Buffalo Police officer came out of Dr. Timothy Jorden Jr.’s home early Wednesday morning.

The Buffalo News reports the officer was on long-term sick leave and was carrying a Rolex watch, about $5,000 cash and his own revolver. The Buffalo News says he was taken into custody and faced intense questioning.

WHAT THE HELL??
OK, FOUND MORE:

When Hamburg police went to stake out the Lake View home of Dr. Timothy V. Jorden Jr. on Wednesday morning, they encountered an off-duty Buffalo cop coming out of the home who has been on sick leave for about three years.

When Hamburg officers encountered Martin L. Motley III, he was carrying a Rolex watch, about $5,000 cash and a gun — his own service revolver — law enforcement officials familiar with the situation told The Buffalo News.

Motley was taken into custody and was undergoing intense questioning late Wednesday by Buffalo investigators who want to know what he was doing in Jorden’s $540,000 home a couple of hours after a woman was killed at Erie County Medical Center and police began searching for Jorden.

One official said that police believe Motley is a longtime friend of Jorden and that someone may have asked Motley to go to the

house and retrieve the items for the doctor after the shooting occurred.

As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, Motley was “not saying much” about why he was in the house, what prompted him to go there, or why he had the items, sources close to the bizarre probe told The News.

“We’re trying to figure out why Motley was in the doctor’s house. We

know they have been good friends since their days at Bennett High School,” one police official said.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Dr. Timothy Jorden, a person of interest in a fatal shooting at ECMC on Wednesday, has what police are calling a sordid past.

The doctor has some glowing reviews from patients, but once the scrubs were off, a different image of the life-saving doctor came into focus. Cheektowaga Police say they have records of two domestic cases involving Jorden in 2003, but those cases do not involve the victim in Wednesday's shooting.

There is a manhunt for a surgeon who entered the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo NY and shot & killed a nurse on the Psych ward. Turns out she was his ex girlfriend, and had just broken up with him. Neighbors and co-workers are shocked as he was "a hell of a nice guy".

Nationwide alert for NY surgeon in woman's death [i]

| WHEC.com

Law enforcement officials across the country were asked Thursday to be on the lookout for a trauma surgeon and former military weapons expert sought in connection with the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend in a Buffalo hospital.

A pick-up order for Timothy Jorden has been transmitted to every law enforcement agency in the land, including local, state and federal offices. The search for Jorden, now in its second day, includes officials with the FBI, Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Marshals Service, according to Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda.

Police were confident Jorden hadn't crossed the border into Canada, but Derenda said they do not know where he is or might be headed.

"He's out there somewhere," Derenda said at a late-morning news conference. Police say Jorden may be armed and should be considered dangerous.

The search began Wednesday morning when 33-year-old Jacqueline Wisniewski was found shot to death in a stairwell at the Erie County Medical Center, where she and Jorden both worked.

Derenda said all four vehicles registered to the 49-year-old Jorden have been accounted for.

Earlier Thursday, police dogs searched the ravine near Jorden's luxury lakeshore home. A neighbor had reported he heard a gunshot the day before.

Tom Wrzosek told The Associated Press that he was home around 9:30 Wednesday morning when he heard a shot.

"I heard a shot, a single shot, and I dismissed it," he said. "You don't often hear it but you do hear it."

He told police Thursday morning after thinking more about the timing.

"My girlfriend mentioned if he committed suicide someone would have heard it," he said.

Police say Wisniewski was shot four times. Derenda said the shooting wasn't a random act, and media reports say Wisniewski was Jorden's ex-girlfriend.

They also say he had lost a lot of weight - as much as 75 pounds, estimated Michael Carr, who works in the surgical recovery room.

"All I know is he was a good doctor, really polite," Carr told the newspaper. "He always had something good to say."

Jorden has a medical degree from the University at Buffalo and trained at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash. He received his certification from the American Board of Surgery in 2004.

The News reported that Jorden joined the National Guard in high school, went into the Army after graduation and served with the Army's Special Forces, first as a weapons expert, then as a medic. In those roles, he served in the Caribbean, Japan and Korea.

Jorden is certified in advanced-trauma life support and has received numerous awards recognizing his relationships with patients, his teaching skills and his involvement in the community, the newspaper said.

Calls to two listings in Washington state for Jorden's ex-wife, Frances, were not returned.

Officials said as many as 400 patients and about half of the hospital's 2,000 employees were on the grounds at the time of the shooting.

Officer Martin being questioned by authorities Wednesday after leaving Dr. Jorden's home.

fucking malingerer.

WGRZ

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- 2 On Your Side has received a statement issued by Roland M. Cercone, the Attorney for Officer Martin Motley III in regards to the ongoing investigation following a deadly shooting at ECMC.

Motley was stopped by police after he was seen at Dr. Jorden's home in Lake View shortly after Wednesday's shooting. He was carrying a gun, a rolex watch, and $5,000 cash.

Press Release Issued by Roland M. Cercone, Attorney for Officer Martin Motley:

"Officer Martin Motley wants it to be clear that he had no knowledge of this impending incident nope. no prior knowledge. or the current whereabouts of Dr. Timothy Jorden, Jr. In fact, Officer Motley has cooperated fully with the Buffalo Police Department, the Erie County District Attorney's Office and the federal investigators and has offered them full access to his phone and text messages to confirm his lack of involvement.

In the days prior to the incident, Officer Motley was suspicious about some of the behavior of Dr. Timothy Jorden which included some unusual gift giving. He even inquired of family members to see if Dr. Jorden was okay. so he naturally confiscated a Rolex and $5,000. hah
he's an out of service cop. on medical leave. for years.

Then when Officer Motley heard about the shooting at Wednesday morning, at ECMC he tried to reach Dr. Jorden by telephone and texting but received no response. Whereupon, being concerned, he drove out to Dr. Jorden's house but could not find him. It was upon leaving the house that he was then stopped by the police and has cooperated fully with all law enforcement authorities.

Officer Motley's first and foremost concerns and prayers go out to the child, family and friends of Jackie Wisniewski. He also prays for the safe resolution of this matter for Dr. Jorden and his family.

No further comment will be available due to the ongoing investigation into this matter."

I had heard on the local news that he was not handling the breakup well. I would guess that he took himself out because he knew he would eventually get caught. My guess he was a bit unstable to begin with.

That puts a weird spin on the cop friend who was arrested walking out with five grand and a rolex. I had assumed he was acting on behalf of his friend to try and get him some cash, but if Jorden killed himself and was still in scrubs that would mean he did it right after the original shooting, and the only way the friend could have known it was safe to sneak in and steal the cash is if he knew Jorden was dead. Fucking graverobber.

In the end, Dr. Timothy V. Jorden Jr. chose the same fatal solution he had worked so hard to avoid as a trauma surgeon -- gun violence.

A two-day nationwide manhunt for Jorden, a suspect in the Wednesday morning shooting death of a former girlfriend at Erie County Medical Center, ended Friday when he was found in a wooded ravine about 800 yards from his lakefront home, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Jorden's body, in blue surgical scrubs and black jacket, was discovered by two female state parole officers in dense underbrush near a ravine along Eighteen Mile Creek.

A .357 Magnum was found in Jorden's right hand, Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda said. Ballistics tests will determine if it's the same gun he used to kill Jackie Wisniewski, his ex-girlfriend and the single mother of a young boy, he said. No suicide note was found. "Had the doctor been taken alive, he would have been charged with murder," Derenda said. "He shot the victim in the head four times and once in the back at point-blank range."
