You don't have to buy a modem for that but it's got a small hard drive for what it is.

If you want an HP, go to their website and buy directly from there - You'll get a better deal.

Also, what do you want this machine for? What will you be putting on it?

Is it for internet surfing and doing your "office business" as well?

Will you be storing a lot of stuff on there and installing some large programs?

Yes, that's exactly what it is for...I don't game at all...It would be strictly for work & fun.

You can customize that baby - that my friend is a dream machine - unless you go buy an Imac....

Ugh, Mac is shit Smiley_emoticons_razz
I'll reiterate: Why would I spend twice the money for less power when I could just get an IBM compatible without an OS and put Linux on it? Linux and Mac OS are both UNIX based OSes, and have almost the exact same capabilities. Unless you ABSOLUTELY have to have something like Adobe Photoshop CS4 (Linux can only get up to CS2 for the moment, and that the Windows version via Crossover) Mac is a waste of money.

Do you really think Duchess is going to go Linux?

Do you really think she just understood a word of that?

Mac is plenty powerful without all the bullshit of windows. Forget selling the damn linux to those who do not understand what you're saying.

Mac is 100% more secure for what she needs to do compared to a windows machine and considering the end user, again, forget the linux sales pitch.

Lumpy, I love the HP machines too. The only thing I don't like is all that preinstalled garbage software in them. You can't just purchase it with the operating system only which is a shame.

D - I'm not sure but I think if you buy directly off the HP site and customize your options on the phone with a sales tech, they'll install your OS with Linux if you want.

Why not? Its easy to use... Smiley_emoticons_wink

Dunno what "selling" a free OS has to do with the power comparisons of Windows and Mac... but OK... Smiley_emoticons_razz

Of course Mac is superior to Windows in security, it has the same security as Linux, UNIX, and BSD (Free or Net).

Ugh, preinstalled software you have no control over always sucks.

You should be able to, they've had that option for a long time. In fact for awhile they had their own Linux in point of fact. And they still have their own UNIX:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP-UX
But I have a small problem with letting them install it, I don't think they let you choose WHICH Linux to use.

Anyhow, I've got a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate now, for testing purposes. So everyone who wants to know what the new Windows is like and how it compares to XP and Vista I'll be able to give an unbiased (mostly, I'm sure I'll dis the security and the backwards compatibility...) report on it in a couple weeks.

That's easily solved by just asking. I'd rather let them install it all and have it covered by their two year warranty. Fuck it, let them fix it instead of driving me nuts but I won't be worrying about that when I get a MAC.

Duchess, get the big purty machine. If you're in a financial situation where you can buy it and not say, "I just spent money I needed for food or bills and wasted it on a new toy instead!" I say go for it. I would. I have to wait for our tax returns to buy my new toy.

On the other hand, as Ant says, if you CAN afford it... go ahead and get a new machine!

Honestly though, you can probably find a better deal by buying the tower and monitor separately.

2 Grand for the super quad core they're showing. I want it - I will scrimp and save for it and I think it's well worth the money.

That mouse!! I love it.

I can only imagine what the MacPro can do!
