ANOTHER PLANE CRASH

I know what you mean. I thought about that too. Authorities and loved ones know exactly who was on the plane that day. There are no questions in that regard. And, there's no chance that anyone involved in a crash of that severity could have survived.

I think maybe it needs to be done as a matter of procedural requirement and consistency. In some high impact accidents where there aren't ticket records or boarding videos of the passengers to confirm identity, the DNA identification process would be key for notifying next of kin, declaring death, issuing a death certificate, etc...

It's also possible some of the families might want even the smallest of remains (after they're tested) for burial or some other memorial purpose.

P.s. I read that medical examiners hope to be able to determine from his remains what was in Lubitz's system. Sounds like a long-shot to me, but who knows?
A DNA hair test will tell you what was in the system for an extended period of time depending on the length of the hairs tested. Up to the last 7 years in some cases.

^^ What? You guys are making up insurance laws and regulations as you go along.

A DNA identification is absolutely not required for a life insurance pay out or for victim compensation claims, nor are remains.

There is adequate proof that all of the passengers and crew members (who are verified to have been on the plane via work logs, boarding records, and video recordings) are now dead. That's what the insurance companies require -- adequate proof of death.

If DNA of the deceased was required, the families of many 9 /11 victims wouldn't have received their insurance payouts and compensation, the family members of those aboard MH370 would also not have received theirs, the loved ones of missing persons presumed dead would never be able to collect, etc...

Yeah, I hope they have hair from Lubitz -- might answer some questions for the investigators and judges.

I've been wondering if Lubitz would have been able to take something (pill) that could've knocked him out within minutes. Is there anything anyone knows of?

That would help explain his normal breathing right up to impact.

Of course it's not required, but if it's the only form of identification (and in this case it would be) it would seal the deal. No questions asked. Cut the check.

Doubtful MS. I think his normal breathing pattern was a product of his planned suicide. Just one man's opinion. It stands to reason that anyone who would do something like this isn't "normal" to begin with.

hah Jesus, stubborn much Gunnar?

That's what I said. It's not "necessary" or "required".

The identities of those on-board are already confirmed, without the DNA -- as is the fact that they are all dead. All 144 passengers and 6 crew members. No question about it. That's a fact.

Incredibly stubborn. hah There will be people, as there always have been in every plane crash who will try to claim someone was on board when in fact they werent HoTD. In addition, part of the grieving process is to hold hope that there was some sort of mistake and their loved ones are coming home no matter how unrealistic the notion is. It's human nature.

^ None of which makes DNA a necessity or requirement for payout to the families, Mr. Hard-Headed.

And, if anybody tries to falsely claim a family member was on-board, they will be stopped in their tracks by the fact that there is no recording of the person boarding the plane and no boarding pass for the person.

There is no guarantee that Medical Examiners will be able to recover DNA from the rubble for all 150 people who are confirmed to have been on board the plane when it crashed. Lack of DNA retrieval won't mean there's any presumption whatsoever that those passengers somehow escaped alive. Likewise, lack of DNA for a phantom passenger won't be a primary or definitive cause for denying a fraudulent claim.

We've already crossed that bridge HoTD. It's not necessary or required. Boarding passes and flight itenararies are not iron clad and leave room for doubt. If it was my airline, I'd want to positively identify every passenger I could. They've got the worlds attention right now and they've screwed up enough things already. No stone unturned.

I don't know what I was thinking making ridiculous claims like that DNA was the only way to identify the already-identified passengers on the plane, or that DNA was likely necessary for an insurance payout or to deny a bogus claim.

Thanks for explaining the obvious and setting me straight, Gunnar. I was really starting to sound like a jackass! Awink

And speaking of sounding like a jackass..........enter Michelle Bachmann. Here's a tweet she sent out yesterday.

"With his Iran deal, Barack Obama is for the 300 million souls of the United States what Andreas Lubitz was for the 150 souls on the German Wings flight - a deranged pilot flying his entire nation into the rocks. After the fact, among the smoldering remains of American cities, the shocked survivors will ask, why did he do it?"

Hey, why let a horrific tragedy go to waste when you can exploit it instead?

She has the audacity to misuse what traditionally airlines call their passengers, i.e, souls to the 300 million people she was referring to who got
"screwed" by Obama (according to her). What a stupid, ignorant, tasteless, political fuck up!!! She and some of her cohorts are some of the dumbest people i personally have ever seen (maybe worse than Sarah Palin), who are supposedly speaking for the people. Some of these people need to have MRI's of the brain before they go into the political arena and open their mouth. Unbelievable!!!!

Relax, BBH.

She is tasteless for comparing the victims of that flight to what Obama is doing, but plenty of people are very leery of his love affair with Iran.

She's is an unbelievably audacious ignoramus much of the time. This is one of those times.

Both of her analogies here are ill-fitting and hyper-dramatic attempts at fear mongering.

-The 300 million citizens living in the US are not comparable to the 149 dead victims of the Germanwings crash, nor are the 1.7 billion citizens living in the other five countries whose leaders are currently working to reach a nuclear proliferation agreement with Iran.

-And, neither President Obama nor any of the other P5+1 Presidents/PMs involved in the nuclear negotiations with Iran is comparable to the psychotic mass murderer who used a plane as a weapon to eviscerate the 149 babies, children, men, and women aboard that Germanwings flight.

She's a dipshit alright. Hey, maybe Cruz will choose her as his running mate? Smiley_emoticons_wink

Word!!!

Although I've got some kraut in my genes so I have to disagree on that point. My maiden name used to have a Von before it until somebody dropped that many, many years ago.
