I've never been to Mardi Gras but my Dad went when I was 18 and said it was disgusting and he couldn't wait to come home. However, I've been reading up on some of the food (shaddup, dick, this isn't a thread about food per se so don't tell me it belongs in the food thread) and I wondered if anyone has ever gone and is the food as good as it looks? I'm a seafood junkie, despite a potentially life threatening allergy. ANd is it as gross as my Dad said, or was he just trying to squash my 18 year old impulse to go?
Just shut up. Just shut the fuck up right now.

There is really nothing like cajun food, I loved it.

I didn't go to Mardi Gras, but I've been to New Orleans. The food was great and Bourbon street smelled like piss. That's probally what he was talking about when he said it was gross.

I'll buy my beads, thanks.
I've never been to Fantasy Fest either. Dammit! I never get to do anything fun. My Dad said Mardi Gras was full of gross people and gross food and just all kinds of shit. I never wanted to go b/c he made it sound like it was people throwing up and pissing all over the place, people g etting raped and shot, but I can clearly see he lied about the food.
Oh my gosh LC! All that stuff sounds so good! I want some shrimp etouffee and beignets and a po boy, muffulettas....I only eat one meal a day so I guess I better make todays a good one.

Do they not have cajun restaurants where you live? We have a bunch (many came after NOLA flooded).
I like crawfish etouffee.
Mardi Gras is a puke/piss fest. Look up the COPS episodes filmed during Mardi Gras. It isn't safe to be out in the crowd unless you want to get mugged. You have to have a room with a balcony overlooking the festivities to have fun.

It did smell like piss, but other than that we had a great time and the food was awesome. We even ended up lost in the ghetto and managed to make it out alive.
You're probally not planning to go to the zoo while you're there, but we went with the kids and it was one the best zoos I've been to.

No. I live in NW Pennsylvania, we have KFC, Crapplebees, Perkins. At some point, we may get a Red Robin! GASP! We have one Mexican restaraunt and a plethora of Chinese buffets and 12 zillion pizza shops. I am forever bitching there is no place around here to eat.
I suppose I wouldn't have much fun if it's a puke/piss fest. Thats doesn't sound like fun. My luck I'd get mugged or something. But the hotel with the balcony sounds like a good idea.

Muggings happen, common sense prevails, don't get shit faced drunk on the street, don't wander around in the darkness alone, don't look like a victim ( people tend to forget this) if you look like an easy target you get targeted.
I bet it would surprise you to know how many people get mugged at disneyland wouldn't it?

Not really. I've never been to Disnay Land but I've been to DisneyWorld more than I care to admit and I'm sure it happens. I try not to put myself in harms way, if I can help it. I don't carry a purse when I'm put in the bar with friends or when I'm at an establishment such as Disney or an amusement park, but I have a fuck ton of bad luck.

Holy shit THATS the truth. Sure sure you get what you pay for (best food I've ever eaten there was at the Yak & Yeti in Animal Kingdom, it was only lunch and it was $70.00) but still. Way to make it budget friendly, Disney.

Nothing feels like walking up to the turnstiles your first time at Disney. It is the most purely happy feeling for kids. Same with Universal Studios. Six Flags GA, not so much.
I didn't see any black people at Disney. They might have all been at Animal Kingdom. Not sure.

I wasn't crazy about Universal. We only went once though and it was after spending a week at Disney so maybe it was doomed right from the start. I dearly love Epcot.

Theres really nothing else in Orlando BUT DW. I mean, you drive down 4 for a specific reason, to get to DW. I'd go again, now that my kids are older. Of course, they don't want to "We've been there a thousand times, I don't want to go back. Lets go to Puerto Rico! Lets go to Mexico!" Bah.

MF always has a cow over shit like that. The rest of us know black people only go to Disney to get their Lion King on, the rest of the time they are at the water parks.
No point lying about it, even though it hurts NJ half-mast feelings.
haha

Take them where they want to go even if you want to go somewhere else. Except Mexico. Tell them they kill kids in Mexico and hang them off overpasses.
