MUSIC - Good New Releases
#21
I can't figure out what's going on with my system; for over a month now. I can't see video posts here anymore. I have to quote and then copy the link URL. I get part of the videos and then they stop. Maybe I need to update my media player? Frustrating.

Anyway, Crash, never heard of that Natalie - only caught a piece of the song. My dad was a HUGE Sam Cooke fan and so am I. I kinda wanna see the video you posted, damn it. Will try again when I get my shit pulled together technically.

HotD, I love a woman that loves Rush.

I don't think that's too common.

Had a roommate in the 80's who was obsessed with them and so, by default, I ended up knowing/loving all of their music.

Were you able to check out "Headlong Flight"? The video kept breaking on me, but it's really good tune.

Another new release by an old favorite that I want to hear all the way through is Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick 2. I think it's a cool concept to continue the story of Gerald Bostock, 40 years later. Anderson can do no wrong in my book though; always blows me away. I'm gonna give it a full listen on Wednesday.

I will check it out tomorrow. Thanks for the tips.

Fiona Apple's first album in 7 years is being released early next week. She's not for everyone, but I really like her lyrics and style.

The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do.

If interested, you can listen to some of it here:

Good call Dono.

This was a good recommendation. Thanks guys. 44

I couldn't find Just Won't Burn on vinyl, but got the CD. We listened to it last night. Very good, all the way through.

P.s. The opening of "You need to be with me" sounds a lot like Robert Cray's "Right Next Door" off the Strong Persuader album, to me. Both great songs.

I believe that you like apples, RG. No need to provide evidence.

Cough up a good new release or old recommendation, or get the hell outta here!92

You've got your own music thread anyway. Work it.

Just picked up "Let It Go" by the Fossil Collective..brand new song. They sound like the Everly Brothers, of all things. Bring me back.

I like Dr. John a lot. Haven't heard the April album release yet, but gonna get around to it soon. "Locked Down" was the teaser track. Good funky stuff, imo.

P.s. that Fossil Collective song does sound much like the Everly brothers - smooth. I like it.

HotD...ever hear Deborah Berg? Her project was called "Eye to Eye"...reminds me a bit of Imogen Heap.

That new album looks sweet. itunes lets you preview the whole thing for free. Still got a 10 dollar gift card and been looking for a cool way to spend it Smiley_emoticons_biggrin

Ah, trippy. I loved the wind chimes throughout.

The early intro made me think of Floyd, but then my mind went straight over to Bowie in the Ziggy Stardust days. I'd never heard of White Witch before. Will check them out a bit more. Thanks.

They had ONE album (A Spiritual Greeting) The singer was like Bowie, but was also a trained opera soprano, plus he acted like Freddie Mercury in their live gigs. They tore every gig they did live apart. I saw them at Watkins Glen one fine fabulous weekend along with the Dead, and the Allman Brothers Band. They were the "backup" group lol.

When I first met you HotD, you made me think of this song:

I say that because it was my first composition I attempted using the newly developed Cakewalk PC software, which with a keyboard and a computer turned your keyboard into a compositional tool that you could layer music tracks with.

I produced my own version of this pretty much note for note, and blew myself away in the process.

I haven't gotten it yet but I understand the new stuff from the Tedeschi/Trucks band is kickass. My deejay that hypes her all the time played an unreleased blues version she did of Nilsson's "everybody's talkin" that was frigging stellar. There is nothing like a big ol bluesy voice belting out some heartbreak...
