I say that because it was my first composition I attempted using the newly developed Cakewalk PC software, which with a keyboard and a computer turned your keyboard into a compositional tool that you could layer music tracks with.

I know of the software. I'm not a real talent by any stretch, but I've done some back up singing and tambourine. Side gigs when I had more energy. Spent a little time in the studio back in the day.
My buddy MT is the biggest Zappa fan that I've ever met. I've got a mini cooler of his in the garage with a "Zappa for President" sticker on it. Inside is a bunch of essays that MT's written over the years. If he wasn't so consumed with the bottle (beer only actually, by the case, every day), I think he could kick out some brilliant works. As it stands, he's great, but too unfocused to every really hit it home.

Amoeba had a triple album set of the Tedeschi Trucks band on vinyl. $39 each. The guy at the store hadn't given it a listen yet, but we ended up talking about Trucks on slide guitar for about 20 minutes when I picked up Tedeschi's debut CD.
I'm on a tight budget, but I might go back and pick up the triple in the next couple of weeks. They're playing at Mountain Winery in Saratoga in September. Also a possibility; I usually head north with my friends near my birthday. Would be the perfect venue.

I downloaded those 5 off ITunes and really like them.
I point them out to you specifically cuz I think we have fairly similar tastes.

I liked the Meiko tune: heavy synch, good for that style and nice breathy female voice.
I liked the Young the Giant song too - good lyrics and beat.
The other 3 didn't really do much for me.
It was fun listening to them; just pulled up the MP3s. Thanks!

Reckless Kelly!!!!! Cross Canadian Ragweed. Wade Bowen.
Totally not mainstream and will never be played outside Texas radio stations. But totally worth the research.
I dig this band enough I actually bought the CD off iTunes

I love the lyrics and the original song. This version has a much different tempo and flavor; really really good, imo.

I have several of Raitt's albums and play them all once in a while.
She seems to be holding up pretty well. There are quite a few of the old singers who are hanging in there. Marianne Faithful actually redid "As Tears go By" and it's even better than the oiginal.
There are a lot of good new bands all of a sudden. One that's been around a little longer and I have high hopes for is Tift Merrit.

Hopsin. The message in this new release is phenomenal. Sadly, it goes against everything the people who listen to this genre uphold. I'd go as far as to say Hopsin is to rap as Marilyn Manson is to rock.

First time to see/hear Hopsin. Pretty powerful lyrics calling out the low parts of some of the rap culture. Liked it a lot. Great rapper.

Rickie Lee Jones has a new album coming out in September, "The Devil You Know". All remakes this time out. She's one of my very favorites. If interested, you can listen to her version of Sympathy for the Devil at the link. First time I didn't particularly care for something of hers, but still anxious to hear the whole album.
