BREAKING: Shooting at Conn. Elementary School
#21

This is unconfirmed - a tweet by someone who said this came from a LEO -

A young man killed his mother, a teacher, then proceeded to turn the gun on the little ones who were all students in her classroom.

This one is really hitting me. I can't imagine all those families, getting ready for the holidays, buying the presents and then this. Not that any other time would have been better but this is just freaking awful. Those poor babies must have been terrified. 21

One commentator said that this will be to schools what 911 was to airline security. WTF is wrong with this world that we need to have police and metal detectors at our elementary schools? This is insanity.

I'm watching on the news(one of many reporting) and the news about the mother is very conflicting about where she was killed. They won't confirm whether she was killed at the school or not. One minute they say she was killed and her body is inside the school and the next minute they are saying she is among the dead but won't comment on where she was killed. But LEO are at the house so I would think if she were killed at the house it would be made known. There are going to be so many stories flying around till it all settles but i'm sure she was at the school, she was a teacher.

I haven't heard anything about the father of the shooter, and i read that article over and over and didn't see where it said anything about the shooter's parents being killed prior but i could have been listening and reading and not doing a good job!

This is truly so heartbreaking, those kids are so young (K-4) and haven't even had a chance at life. To hear a kid say they all went to the fire station and were happy to realize they were all alive and hear other accounts to hear that a whole class didn't show up just breaks my heart and gives me goosebumps. This happening at anytime of the year is devastating but right before Christmas is just terrible! President is giving his speech now...

Jesus Christ...you can't send your kids to school, you can't go to the movies, you can't go shopping...WTF???

Why can't these motherfuckers just kill themselves?

The lump in my throat feels like the size a baseball...

I said this same thing to my mom... No Christmas presents will be opened that have surely been bought already. Trees being decorated and memories being made. I also felt the same way, no time is the right time for this sort of thing but right before Christmas.

News outlet i am watching is stating that they(LEO) believe the target was his mother... she was a kindergarten teacher. SO if it was his mother, then why take out all these children? DID he feel she spent all that time with the children and not with him? SO SAD!

WHAT?!! i haven't heard this! I am going to be interested to see what the theory is now since the news just stated they think his target was his mom... so why kill the brother? Is the dad dead too for real?

Parents are divorced, no word on where the Dad resides.

Please keep in mind I can't confirm some of this, it's bits & pieces I'm picking up as I navigate cyberspace.

Update 3:05 p.m. AP confirms age, shooter’s brother held: The Associated Press is reporting that the shooter, previously identified at Ryan Lanza, is 24 years old. AP is also reporting the shooter’s younger brother is being held.

I'm not really sure what that means but it's the only info I can find about the brother.

I find it very interesting that he was wearing camo stuff and comes out of the woods saying "i didn't do it" upon being arrested... would preclude me to think he knew what was going to happen. Why would someone be in the woods in camos and just so happen to be related to the shooter, very odd.

That's what I thought too. He probably knew with the severity of the situation and all the people that were there they would attack him! Sickening. I can't even wrap my mind around this.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: The Ryan Lanza originally identified by CNN.com and Slate and reported in this story is NOT the same Ryan Lanza identified as the shooter. The Ryan originally reported has responded on his Facebook page (See Below).

The Newtown school shooting suspect has been identified as Ryan Lanza, but a “likely Facebook page” for the alleged gunman appears to possibly point to the wrong man.

Ryan Lanza lists his hometown as Newtown, but indicates he most recently resided in Hoboken.

CNN and Slate have identified Lanza as the probable gunman, and the man’s Facebook page simply displays a photo with a friend’s comment:

“Look like you’re about to buy an Ale, but then paint a picture of it… very mixed… all good, though. Kinda like if Solid Snake was wearing a Neo trenchcoat. This can only turn out awesome.”

Earlier reports that the gunman was a father of a Sandy Hook Elementary student appear to have been erroneous, but Lanza’s connection to the school has not yet been revealed.

Little is known about how Lanza was identified as the shooter or on what information news stations are basing reports on, but initial reports also indicate that a parent of the alleged gunman was found dead at another location.

A screenshot circulating on Twitter purports to have recent updates from the Ryan Lanza whose Facebook has been identified by media sources as belonging to the gunman denying a connection to the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting:

The representative of the state troopers that is speaking is an idiot. I excused it once...he started his statement given earlier today with "good afternoon" but now he just opened his second statement with "good evening". The first time I let it go as habit but twice? Really?? Stupid!!

NBC NEWS

NEWTOWN, CT -- President Barack Obama called Conecticut Gov. Dan Malloy to offer his condolences for Friday morning's elementary school shootings.

Obama also offerred all federal resources to Malloy.

In a press conference about 1:30 p.m. Friday, Malloy was not present as he was still talking to the families of students involved in the early morning shootings that left 27 dead, 18 of whom are children and including among the dead the shooter..

His spokesman, Roy Occhiogrosso, said the "Governor is horrified by what has happened...and is giving information to the families of students and staff..."

The alleged shooter has been identified by NBC News as Ryan Lanza, 24, and he shot and killed his father in Hoboken, New Jersey.

WNBC says Lanza then drove to Sandy Hook Elementary School where his mother was the kindergarten teacher. Lanza is said to have entered the front office at the school and opened fire, then walked to his mother's classroom and opened fire, killing her and other students.

Lt. Paul Vance of the Connecticut State Police would only say that "the shooter is deceased inside the building..."

Vance said the incident began after a 911 call from the school to the Newtown Police Department at 9:41 a.m. The police immediately called state police and other local law enforcement for mutual aid.

Vance said that when they arrived at the school, they made "immediate entry."

Vance would not give specific numbers on how many children and how many staff are dead and walked away when asked if that was the only shooter.

There are reports that there is a person in custody but that has not been confirmed.

NBC News has identified the shooter as Ryan Lanza, 24, of New Jersey.

The school had 456 children in the school at the time of the incident.

Vance said there would be another press conference shortly.
